Snowflake is the perfect opportunity to wind down from the fall season and reward your players with a fun day of 7v7 competition. Games will be 7 v 7 format (2 attackmen, 2 middies, 2 defensemen, 1 goalie), and play is limited to 4 on 4 on each end. All penalties result in a 3v2 fast break, and the goalie puts the ball immediately back into play after each goal scored. No long poles are allowed and it is a strict no hitting tournament.

Duke Snowflake is December 3rd @ Duke University. We will play three games in a fun 7 v 7 format. We will have one practice for the Duke event, as this is a non competitive day. Practice for Duke will be on November 28th from 6-7:30pm at Smithville Park (disregard the earlier announcement of 11/21 optional practice). Roster is limited to 15 players, those who register after the 15 cap will be put on a waiting list.

We are proud to be one of the founding members of the North Carolina Box Lacrosse Association (NCBLA). Box (indoor) lacrosse is most popular in Canada, here in the US we have a professional league called the NLL. Box lacrosse is played indoors, 5 v 5 + goalie. This is a very different game than the traditional field game that we are all accustomed to. Until now, you would have to travel up north for the opportunity to play the real Box lacrosse game. By partnering with three other programs in the state, we can now bring this fun and beneficial game to us. We will get our teams together prior to the first event to learn the rules of Box lacrosse.

As everyone has seen both on a national and collegiate level, players with a box lacrosse background have a clear advantage over field lacrosse players who have never played indoors. Box lacrosse forces players to:

  • Make quick decisions under pressure
  • Shoot and pass more accurately
  • Improve their footwork and overall speed
  • Maneuver with and without the ball in traffic
  • Develop both offensive and defensive skills
  • Generate optimal scoring opportunities
  • Play an effective multi-man game (i.e. picks)
  • Become smarter and more physical
  • Constantly be engaged due to far fewer game stoppages
  • Generate space away from the play
  • Be more creative while generating offensive opportunities with and without the ball
  • And most importantly… have fun!
We will compete in two championship formatted Box lacrosse tournaments this winter, with the hopes of expanding next year. The first event will be in Apex on December 10th, and the second will be in Greensboro on February 10th. These are one day events, and do not require a hotel stay. We will field three teams: 10U, 12U, and 14U. Rosters for this will be capped at 15, again, those who register after the 15 cap will be put on a waiting list. The cost for both events is $175 and includes a traditional Box lacrosse jersey.
